India, Aug. 30 -- A s catastrophic flash floods continue to batter Nepal since Wednesday, the distress has reached Delhi University (DU), home to several Nepalese students. The atmosphere has been sombre as devastating videos emerge, with some unable to reach their families and others desperate to go home. Through it all, fellow students have stepped up with financial, logistical and emotional support. Lavanya Raskoti, from Delhi Nepal Students Association, who is a recent graduate of Vivekananda College, shares, "We've been using our internal network, WhatsApp group, social media, and word of mouth to identify students whose families are stuck in the floods. They are in distress, and some are struggling with finances since there's no network in flood-hit regions, and they rely on their parents to send them money through online transfers. We've been raising funds to help them financially. We also want to help those in Nepal and are hoping to raise sufficient funds so that we can send supplies." Kanak Bisht, a second-year student at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College shares, "Emotional support is as much needed as financial assistance. We've made a WhatsApp channel where any student who's struggling can share their details. We're also arranging meet-ups so that they can get out of their hostels and PGs; to help them change the environment they are in lest they feel alone as they hardly have any contact with their families back home." Payal Chandra, a first-year student at Daulat Ram College, feels practical solutions work the best in such times. She says, "We are trying to raise funds to help and have initiated a donation drive. Messages are also being shared in all social groups of the university requesting students to donate clothes, food supplies, medicines, hygiene products and any other essential supplies. Apart from that, we've partnered with local NGOs to send the collected supplies so that arrangements can be made for these to be delivered to the flood-hit parts of Nepal through a proper channel."...
