Delhiites, think twice before picking up that cash
India, June 8 -- A viral video with over 36 million views has drawn attention to an alleged distraction scam in East Delhi's Laxmi Nagar, where fraudsters reportedly use cash as bait to target valuables inside vehicles.
The video shared by Delhi-based content creator Tushar Bhalla on Instagram records an incident in which a stranger alerts him about money lying near his car. "Sir, aapke paise gire hue hain," the man can be heard saying while pointing towards cash on the road.
Instead of stepping out, Bhalla checks his mirrors and notices another man waiting near the rear door. "In the rear, there is an older man stalking and waiting," he said in the clip, adding that he suspected the situation was a setup.
Explaining why he did not leave the vehicle, Bhalla tells us, "The moment the guy tapped on my car and pointed at the money, I sensed something was wrong." He adds that after spotting the second man, he realised it was "a complete setup".
According to Bhalla, the alleged plan was to distract him into leaving the driver's seat so an accomplice could access the vehicle and steal valuables. "I wanted to share this video for awareness because when you see money on the floor, your immediate human reaction is to look down or step out. It is incredibly easy to fall for it if you aren't paying close attention to your surroundings," he shares.
The video has sparked discussion online, with several users praising his alertness. "Classic distraction tactic," one user commented, while another wrote, "Thanks for sharing this." Users also advised motorists to keep car doors locked and remain aware of their surroundings....
