Delhi woman calls out delivery agent's comments on 11pm order
India, June 6 -- A Delhi-based woman's account of an uncomfortable interaction with a delivery agent has struck a chord online. Sharing the incident on LinkedIn, Aanya Wig (see right) said she ordered an after-dinner paan on Zomato and stepped outside alone around 11pm to collect it.
According to Wig, the delivery partner first asked whether she was the person who had placed the order. "I didn't engage," she wrote. However, Wig claimed that while handing over the packet, the rider made a remark about her being "a girl and of this age" and ordering paan.
"How does your delivery partner have any authority to see what I've ordered, make a comment and pretend as if he has some right (or say) in what I order and don't?" she wrote. Though she lodged a complaint, Wig was also worried about possible "repercussions": "If anything happens to hurt his ego, he knows exactly where I stay."
The post has reignited concerns over customer privacy and safety during late-night deliveries.
Several LinkedIn users sympathised with Wig, pointing to wider concerns around women's safety. One wrote, "It's literally scary. I have this fear almost every time when I order anything from these apps. There should be some ways to protect basic things of customers." Another commented, "It's getting worse day by day in Delhi/NCR. It's very scary because he knows where you live."
Responding to the post, Zomato commented, "Hi Aanya, please DM us your order ID and we will look into this on priority." Wig responded that she had already lodged a complaint and sent the page a direct message. No further resolution had been reported till the time of going to press. htc...
