Delhi school girl raises Rs.2 lakh for stray canines by selling organic soaps

India, Oct. 31 -- A nine-year-old girl in Delhi has turned compassion into action - one bar of soap at a time. Sifat, a student of Step by Step School, grew up in an environment that values both empathy and enterprise, as her parents are self-employed. What began as a small effort in 2024 has now evolved into a sustained city-impact initiative supporting street-animal welfare.
Her journey started with a modest Rs.9,000, raised by selling eco-friendly, handmade soaps and donated to Neighbourhood Woof, an organisation focused on sterilisation and anti-rabies immunisation of stray dogs. During a visit there, Sifat met Phoenix, a resilient two-legged dog who inspired her to scale up her idea as Phoenix by Sifat. By Diwali 2024, she had raised Rs.1 lakh, covering two months of medicinal costs for sterilisation drives.
Now in 2025, Sifat is directing proceeds toward the redevelopment of Neighbourhood Woof's Stray Canine Birth-Control Centre. With her latest contribution, the upgrade corpus stands at Rs.2 lakh, enabling the NGO to expand Animal Birth Control and vaccination services - approaches regarded as humane and effective for stabilising street-dog populations.
At home, her parents lend hands-on support in sourcing eco-friendly materials, managing small-batch production, and ensuring safe deliveries, helping the young student-preneur balance academics with advocacy. Her model remains simple and replicable: craft soaps, and sell and channel proceeds to animal welfare.
"Children like her remind us that compassion and responsibility can't wait for perfect circumstances," says Ayesha Christina Benn, founder, Neighbourhood Woof.
Sifat hopes that the upgraded centre will accelerate surgeries and post-operative care so more animals receive timely treatment. For her, the mission is clear: keep crafting, keep funding, and keep Delhi's street animals safer.
