Delhi says irshaad to Urdu poetry heavyweights
India, April 18 -- The Capital recently witnessed the old-world charm of Urdu poetry, as thousands poured in for the 57th Shankar Shad Mushaira at Modern School Barakhamba Road.
Poets came in to Delhi from Bareilly, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Kanpur, and Hyderabad, bringing along their distinct regional dialects to the stage.
Heavyweights including screenwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar and poet Waseem Barelvi shared the spotlight.
"To the young minds writing today, I want to say this: Write because the truth burns inside you," Akhtar told the captivated crowd.
The audience listened with rapt attention as veterans such as Sheen Kaaf Nizam, Rajesh Reddy, and Shakeel Azmi took the mic. They were followed by the raw energy of Charan Singh Bashar, and Zubair Ali Tabish, and young voices like Hina Haider Rizvi.
