India, June 19 -- Earlier this month in London, English actor Rosamund Pike called out an audience member who was texting during her performance of Inter Alia, criticising them after curtain call. Back home in Delhi, director-actor Rajesh Singh's monologue in the recently staged play Babuji got interrupted by an e-wallet notification at the National School of Drama (NSD), despite repeated pre-show announcements to keep phones on silent. This caused him to break character and call the audience out, before restarting the scene. Theatre artistes getting irked by mobile phones during live stage acts is not a new phenomenon. Most theatre lovers may remember the time thespian Naseeruddin Shah paused mid-performance to confront an audience member speaking loudly on the phone.
