Cosmological misunderstanding: Tharoor to X user calling rasgulla 'idli dipped in sugar syrup'
India, May 20 -- MP Shashi Tharoor has gone viral once again, this time for defending the humble idli after an X user compared rasgulla to "an idli dipped in sugar syrup."

"Their taste, consistency, structural integrity, and existential purpose share absolutely nothing in common," he added.
Tharoor also passionately defended idli, calling it "one of the greatest engineering marvels of the culinary world" and praising its fermentation, nutrition and ability to pair with sambhar and chutneys.
"To suggest an Idli would even consent to being drowned in sugar syrup is to fundamentally misunderstand its dignity," he concluded.
This isn't the first time Shashi Tharoor has passionately defended idlis online. In September 2025, he went viral after calling a good idli "a cloud, a whisper, a perfect dream," while responding to a user who described the dish as "steamed regret."HTC...
