India, Oct. 27 -- Actor Imran Khan's plea challenging a notice directing him to leave India by October 28 will be heard by the Bombay HC today, a day after the hearing was deferred. The notice was issued by Mumbai's Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) following his alleged participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 10. Imran, a US citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, was briefly detained near Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan. Denying participation in the protest, he challenged the notice as unconstitutional, saying he was denied a hearing. His legal team at MZM Legal LLP tells us that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta will argue the matter today: "We have no doubt that the decision will be in the favour of Imran because the FRRO Leave India notice is per-se illegal, as we have iterated since the beginning." If the ruling goes against Imran, his lawyers can approach the SC, though they believe this "will not be required because Imran's case has merit". If the hearing is adjourned again or does not take place today, they can also seek a stay on the Leave India notice, as the deadline for him to leave the country expires on Oct 28....
