Bombay HC orders removal of morphed photos of Shilpa
India, Dec. 28 -- The Bombay High Court on Friday ordered the immediate takedown of AI-generated morphed images and videos of actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, describing the content as "extremely disturbing and shocking". The direction was issued while hearing Shilpa's plea seeking protection against the misuse of her identity and personality in manipulated digital material circulated online.
The court noted that the images were "prima facie extremely disturbing" and stressed that "no personality, much less a person and or a woman can be portrayed in a fashion which affects her fundamental right to privacy and that too, without her knowledge and or consent". The court also observed that such portrayal would damage Shilpa's image and reputation, and "in the interest of justice," it directed all defendants to delete the offending URLs from their respective platforms.
In her suit, Shilpa had alleged that AI tools had been used to clone her voice and mannerisms to create morphed images, books, and other merchandise without authorisation, and had sought an injunction against the unauthorised use of her name, voice, or image. HTC...
