India, July 22 -- I ndia has officially greenlit its first-ever dengue vaccine, marking a major milestone in the country's fight against the mosquito-borne disease. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given a green signal to Japanese company Takeda Biopharmaceuticals' QDENGA. This is especially important, considering India accounts for one-third of global dengue cases. The vaccine successfully underwent a global trial programme spanning 19 studies and over 28,000 participants, including an India-specific phase III trial. In the international trial, the vaccine showed over 80% efficacy against confirmed dengue at 12 months and over 90% efficacy against dengue-related hospitalisation at 18 months, with meaningful protection still holding at the 4.5-year mark.
