A child is a child, be it a girl or a boy: Sunny Leone
India, Oct. 11 -- O
n International Day of the Girl Child today, actor Sunny Leone calls for an end to gender bias. "I really hope people stop comparing a girl child with a boy child, because there is no difference. At the end of the day, a child is a child. Having grown up outside India, this concept of giving preference to a boy over a girl is something that does not sit well with me," she tells us.
Sunny, who adopted daughter Nisha with husband Daniel Weber in 2017, recalls how the couple felt an instant connection with her. "We instantly felt a connection with Nisha. We knew almost immediately that she was the child we wanted to bring home as part of our family. There was an instant bond," says the 45-year-old.
The couple also decided early on to be open with Nisha about her adoption. "We were always very clear that we would never hide the fact that Nisha was adopted. Ever since we got Nisha home, we have documented each day with her in an album," Sunny shares.
The family also marks the day Nisha came home with a special celebration. "We don't celebrate her birthday, we celebrate her Gotcha Day," she adds.
