India, Aug. 16 -- Despite the wave of criticism that accompanied The Kerala Story's (2023) two National Film Award wins earlier this month, actor Adah Sharma is unwavering in her defence of her film. "Everyone is allowed to have their opinion. I think it would have been shameful not to make this film," she says. The film is based on the accounts of young women who were allegedly radicalised, trafficked and forced into terrorist organisations. Adah shares, "I met 25 of those girls; our film is a diluted version of the horrors they went through." Some critics have labelled the film's win as both "shameful and politically motivated". Ask about such comments and the actor replies, "If telling the truth is being shameful, then I don't mind being shameless. I have no shame in saying I am anti-terror." The 33-year-old further asserts: "There is no mention of any political party. For me, it has always been a story of girls who are trafficked and brainwashed, and I stand with those girls." She adds, "I can't see it in any other way. I have to stand with the truth." Her own role in the film was a portrayal of one such woman and Adah says she felt deep sense of moral responsibility. "After meeting them, I felt it was my responsibility to tell their story. I was very nervous when they watched the film, but thankfully, they loved it," she ends....
