'I'm happy I entered films when I did'
India, Nov. 16 -- Tabu was just a teenager when she began working in films. Yet over the years, she has carved out a distinguished place for herself in Bollywood with hits such as Maachis (1996), Border (1997), Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999) and others.
Recently, while turning show-stopper for designer duo Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, she spoke in a brief post-show chat with Diet Sabya and revealed she would not choose to make her debut in today's "Gen Z actor" era. Laughing, she said, "I don't think I'll be entering the movies now. I'm happy I did when I did it."
At the fashion show, Tabu made a striking appearance in black trousers, a black cowl-neck tunic and a long black coat decorated with silver hand embroidery and sparkling crystals. The audience, comprising veteran actors Jaya Bachchan, Neetu Kapoor and Soni Razdan, responded to her walk with loud cheers. One of the sweetest moments came when Jaya Bachchan clapped excitedly and blew flying kisses at Tabu as she walked. A clip of the warm exchange quickly went viral on social media.
Tabu's debut came in 1985 with Hum Naujawan and she soon moved into leading roles, including a breakthrough in the Telugu film Coolie No 1 (1991) and a Bollywood debut with Pehla Pehla Pyar (1994) opposite Rishi Kapoor. She won the National Award for Best Actress for her performance in Maachis.
