'A woman can be sexy and powerful if she's in control'
India, Oct. 26 -- Singer-songwriter Jasmine Sandlas has spent over a decade shaping her own path in the music industry. Between Poison Baby in Thamma, her collaboration with Hanumankind for the title track Dhurandhar, and her latest album International Robbery, her work is always purposeful: "Every song I create has to have a purpose behind it, whether it makes people dance, heal, or feel powerful."
This period marks what Jasmine calls a "rebirth" in her career. Having written more than 130 songs and released four albums, she says she used to overthink everything. "Now, I want to think less and do more. I'm following intuition, trying new things, taking creative risks," she explains.
With over 10 million monthly listeners on streaming platforms, the 40-year-old recognises the responsibility that comes with her platform and is aware of the scrutiny Punjabi music industry faces for its portrayal of women. "I know how deeply my songs resonate with women. They tell me how important it is to hear music that empowers them and that keeps me grounded," she says, adding, "A woman can be sexy and powerful as long as she's in control. If she's dancing to her own rhythm, expressing herself freely, that's not objectification but empowerment."
Combining tradition and modernity for Dhurandhar, Jasmin calls the collab with Hanumankind "a last minute blessing", adding, "It was epic, amazing, and everyone is in love with the sound."...
