zubeen garg murder trial commences
Silchar, June 9 -- A special fast-track court in Assam's Kamrup Metro district on Monday commenced trial proceedings against the seven people accused of allegedly killing singer Zubeen Garg in September 2025.
"On Monday, the statements of three police personnel and the person who lodged the first FIR in September last year were examined," said public prosecutor Ziaul Kamar.
Court records show that four accused- Siddhartha Sharma, Shyam Kanu Mahanta, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prava Mahanta- have been charged under Sections 3(6), 3(7), 3(8), 61(2) and 103(1) of the BNS, including the offences of murder and criminal conspiracy. Shyam Kanu, who organised the cultural event where Garg was scheduled to perform before his death, also faces charges related to alleged extortion, cheating and destruction of evidence.
Sandipon Garg, Zubeen's cousin and a former police officer, has been charged under Section 105, while personal security guards Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Borah face charges of criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust....
