Youth held with country-made pistol in Panchkula
Panchkula, June 10 -- A 21-year-old man was arrested by the Sector-26 crime branch team for allegedly possessing an illegal country-made pistol. The arrest was made following a tip-off, police said on Tuesday.
According to the police, preliminary investigation found that the accused did not possess any valid licence or permission to keep the firearm.
According to the police, on June 8, a police team received information that the accused, Sanjeev Rajput alias Sanju, of Karnal, currently living in Barwala, was carrying an illegal country-made pistol and was present under suspicious circumstances on the road leading from the Panchkula-Yamunanagar Highway towards Sector 21.
Acting on the information, the police arrested him and recovered the weapon from his possession.
A case under Section 25(1)(b) of the Arms Act has been registered at Chandimandir police station.
Police officials said an investigation is underway to trace the source of the weapon and identify any possible network linked to the accused.
The accused was produced before a court on Tuesday and has been sent to judicial custody....
