Chandigarh, Dec. 16 -- The Punjab and Haryana high court chief justice, Sheel Nagu, on Monday noon told lawyers that instead of striking work, they should have filed a petition regarding the alleged assault on a lawyer in Haryana's Hisar on November 30. A group of lawyers told the bench, which also included justice Sanjiv Berry, that a meeting of the general house of the Bar body had taken place and it had been decided to abstain from the work for the day. By noon, the court had already heard around 15 matters. "You shouldn't go to the police stations and talk to police officers. It's below your dignity.withdraw the strike and file an application on the judicial side," the chief justice said, asking lawyers to discuss the matter afresh, submit the application on the judicial side, and resume work. However, the members who came to inform the court said that the message to strike had already been sent to all members, but confirmed that an application would be filed on the judicial side. The court observed that abstaining from work is in neither lawyers' nor litigants' interest. ".It (strike) causes significant harm to litigants who've come here with hope," the bench said. Lawyers said that police had not acted, despite representations to several senior officers, even after 15 days....
