Chandigarh, July 8 -- The chief electoral officer, Punjab, Anindita Mitra, on Tuesday said that any form of misconduct or harassment against booth-level officers (BLOs) engaged in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise will not be tolerated. She said that incidents of misbehaviour with BLOs have been reported from Patiala and Barnala districts. She said that in Patiala, the BLO for booth No. 113 was assaulted by a resident of Anand Nagar, after he sought details in connection with the SIR exercise. Following the incident, police station, Tripuri, has registered an FIR against the accused under Sections 115(2), 351(3), 221 and 132 of the BNS. Mitra said that in another incident, the BLO for booth No. 103 at Akalgarh Kothe in Dhanaula, Barnala district, was assaulted by a resident. Dhanaula police station has registered a case against the accused. The CEO directed all district election officers across Punjab to ensure adequate security arrangements for BLOs. A 42-year-old teacher, said to be upset over the assignments related to SIR, ended his life by jumping into a canal near the Bhattian bridge in Gurdaspur district on Monday. The deceased was posted at Government Primary School in Bhaini Mian Khan. The police have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. Sarpanch Kaushal Singh, along with two other teachers posted at the same school-Gurpratap Singh and Simran Singh-claimed the deceased "was distressed over SIR-related duty."htc...
