Woman among two killed in mohali road accidents
Mohali, April 25 -- Two persons, including a woman, lost their lives in separate road accidents in Mohali, police officials said on Friday. The first mishap took place near Sector-82 on Airport Road where 50-year-old Sunita Rani, a resident of Jheurherhi village, IT City was crushed to death by a tractor-trolley. Her son Gurwinder Singh mentioned in his police that she was crossing the road near an overbridge when the "speeding" tractor-trolley hit her. The driver briefly stopped after the accident but fled. She died on the spot due to severe head injuries.
Police said the accused has been identified as Kuldeep Singh, a native of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Sector-87, Mohali. A case has been registered under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death caused by negligence) of the BNS at the IT City police station, and efforts are underway to arrest him, officials said.
In the other road accident that took place near Jain temple on the Chandigarh-Kharar road in Phase 1 on Thursday evening, 34-year-old Baharan Kumar, a resident of Mohali village, died after being hit by a car. Police said he was walking along the roadside when a speeding car struck him from behind.
The victim was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. Accused Sumit Kumar, 36, has been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence, officials said....
