welder drowns in ghaggar
Panchkula, June 16 -- The body of 32-year-old Jai Kumar, a resident of Baltana, who drowned in Ghaggar on Sunday, has been fished out, police said on Monday. The victim had drowned in Chhamla village of Morni block while bathing with his colleagues. According to police, Jai Kumar went to Morni along with five co-workers for welding works in a hotel. After completing their work on Sunday afternoon, the group went to the Ghaggar river to catch fish and cool off.
His companions told police that while they were bathing in the river, Jai suddenly disappeared. The group searched for him but failed to trace him. Subsequently, police officials were informed, who, with assistance of local divers and villagers, launched a rescue operation.
The efforts continued until 10 pm on Sunday but were suspended due to darkness. The search resumed on Monday morning, when the body was finally recovered from the river.
Morni police post in-charge Satyavir supervised the operation with the help of local residents. Police said no foul play has been detected during the preliminary investigation. Statements of witnesses have been recorded.
According to the police, a postmortem examination will be conducted on Tuesday....
