Week on, waste reappears right under warning board
Mohali, Sept. 9 -- Just a week after MLA Kulwant Singh and his son, mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana launched the Mission Safai campaign near TDI, Sector 117, on Airport Road, garbage has once again started accumulating at the spot.
The site had been specifically chosen for the launch of the campaign since it sits right at the entrance of Mohali.
During a visit on Monday morning, garbage was found piled up directly beneath a warning board installed by the municipal corporation (MC), which states that the area is under closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera surveillance and that those found dumping waste would be fined.
But it turns out that the CCTVs meant for the purpose have also not been installed.
Samana said he would look into the matter and ensure the site was brought undersurveillance.
"It will soon be under surveillance so that penalties can be levied on defaulters," he said.
With the freshly accumulated waste exposing the gaps between the MC's claims and ground realities, residents said launching cleanliness drives was not enough and that the civic body needs to ensure regular monitoring, timely lifting of waste and strict action against violators....
