India, Sept. 18 -- With the fervour of Ganeshotsav unfurling across Maharashtra, Prajakta Koli is also celebrating Jyeshtha Gauri Pujan. The three-day festival from September 17 to 19 sees families welcome Goddess Gauri into their homes. Belonging to the Koli community, the content creator-actor's family prays to a life-sized idol, with a makeshift idol made from plants used for visarjan every year. "We look at the Goddess as one very special guest who's coming home for a day-and-a-half and then she goes," she says. For Prajakta, the tradition has spanned across generations. "My father's grandmother had asked for some mannat over 100 years ago. When it was fulfilled, they brought home the Gauri idol. That's how the tradition began at our home. When my parents decided to bring back Gauri to our house 21 years ago, it was not for a mannat but because we wanted to bring that tradition back," she tells us. The 33-year-old remembers going to the fish market early in the morning with her dad, and bringing fish home for the prasad. "It's the same recipe we use on a daily basis, but there's something about this bhog that ends up becoming the yummiest meal of the whole year," she gushes. This year marks Prajakta's first Gauri Pujan after her marriage to legal professional Vrishank Khanal. While the couple have their own home now, they are celebrating the festival with her family at her parents' home. "I still look at it as my home, and my husband and I will be celebrating with my family," she says....
