Wadhwa's sons get bail in 'escape bid' case
Chandigarh, Oct. 6 -- A local court on Monday granted bail to Karan Wadhwa and Kunal Wadhwa, sons of undertrial businessman Vikram Wadhwa, in connection with the alleged escape bid involving their father. The two were named as accused in a chargesheet filed by the police on October 3 against five people in connection with the alleged attempt to facilitate Vikram Wadhwa's escape from custody. The chargesheet also names sub-inspector Jagmehar Singh, assistant sub-inspector Surender and Vikram Wadhwa.
According to the police investigation, Vikram Wadhwa, who was lodged in Model Jail, Burail, had been taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, for a medical examination. Later, the two policemen deputed to escort him allegedly took him to a hotel in Sector 17 in a private vehicle.
A police team later raided the hotel and arrested five accused. The case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 199, 261, 262, 62 and 61(2) of the BNS.
