Dehradun, Sept. 9 -- The Demographic Similar Entry/Photo Similar Entry (DSE/PSE) module will be implemented in Uttarakhand as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to identify possible duplicate or erroneous voter entries, chief electoral officer BVRC Purushottam said on Tuesday. Under the system, electoral-roll entries with similar demographic details or photographs will be flagged for verification. DSE refers to entries where details such as a voter's name, age, gender or other particulars appear similar to another entry, while PSE identifies records with photographs that appear similar to those in other electoral-roll entries. Being flagged under the module, however, will not automatically lead to deletion from the electoral roll, the officer said. Voters identified through DSE/PSE will be issued notices and given 15 days to submit their responses, after which their cases will be examined. Purushottam also held a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the ongoing SIR exercise and sought their suggestions. He informed them that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had extended the deadline for the final publication of the electoral roll in Uttarakhand to October 3, 2026. He also said hearings had been completed for more than 24.29 lakh of the 24.30 lakh notices issued to voters over discrepancies and unmapped entries. The parties were further informed that hearings on more than 40% of claims and objections submitted through Forms 6, 7 and 8 had been completed. Detailed discussions werealso held on the SIR process, and suggestions from the parties were sought. Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba, who was issued a notice by the EC during the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls over a mismatch in his name, had the issue resolved after officials verified his documents, the Dakshina Kannada district administration said on Tuesday. Hajabba was served the notice on Monday. He said his name appeared as "Hajabba" in the 2002 electoral roll, while his other official records carry his full name. Deputy commissioner Darshan H said the notice was generated as part of the standard verification process. kevin mendonsa...
