Batala, May 23 -- Two suspected criminals were arrested after an encounter with police in Sarupwali village near Batala on Friday. One of the accused sustained a bullet injury during the exchange of fire, police said. According to police, the suspects were hiding in fields when a police team surrounded the area following a tip-off about their presence near Chhit village. Police said when the team attempted to apprehend them, one suspect was arrested on the spot, while the other opened fire at the police and fled towards Sarupwali village. Police personnel retaliated and the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire. Batala SSP Mehtab Singh said the injured accused was later arrested. Police have not disclosed the identities of the accused so far. An FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway.HTC...
