Panchkula, July 12 -- Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced that the state government will launch a large-scale public awareness campaign under the Haryana Uday initiative to make the state drug-free by strengthening community policing and public participation. Addressing an interaction with NGOs and chemist associations in Panchkula, CM also administered an anti-drug pledge to participants. Saini urged social organisations to transform the anti-drug campaign into a mass movement by reaching villages, wards and localities, and engaging with youth in schools, colleges and sports grounds to educate them about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Emphasising that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility of society and not the government alone, he announced the formation of district and local-level task forces. The task forces will comprise SDMs, BDPOS, village sarpanches and representatives of NGOs associated with anti-drug initiatives to ensure coordinated action and strengthen awareness campaigns at the grassroots level. According to an official spokesperson, the new initiatives aim to strengthen transparency through technology-driven governance, enhance regulatory oversight, safeguard government revenue and promote ease of doing business. The chief minister launched these services while reviewing the excise and taxation department's Haryana Vision-2047 roadmap. The spokesperson said the state government introduced an upgraded QR code-based track and trace system for liquor. Under the system, every movement of each liquor bottle, from distilleries and bottling units to wholesale distribution and retail sale will be closely monitored. The mechanism will enable better tracking of inventory movement, ensure compliance with excise laws, curb the circulation of illicit liquor and promote fair and transparent trade, the spokesperson said....
