BATHINDA, March 8 -- Moga police have booked four persons, including a resident of Jaimal Wala village and his two sons, in connection with the murder of Harpinder Singh, alias Happy, the sarpanch of Patto Hira Singh village. The accused have been identified as Jaswant Singh, his sons Manpreet Singh and Jobanpreet and one Jaskaran Singh, all residents of Patto Hira Singh village. Harpinder was gunned down around 11am on Friday outside his gym when assailants in an SUV fired eight to 10 rounds at him, police said. Investigators said no one has been arrested, while a few suspects are being questioned. According to Harpinder's uncle Jaswinder Singh, who is the complainant in the case, Manpreet had strained marital relations with his wife, Rupinder Kaur. In his complaint to the police, Jaswinder alleged that Manpreet murdered Harpinder as he was helping Rupinder. Baghapurana SHO Jatinder Singh said on Saturday that seven unidentified persons have also been booked under various sections, including 103 (murder), 191 (3) (rioting, being armed with a deadly weapon) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Agitated over the murder, the victim's family staged a dharna on Friday, where several villagers and former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira were present. The protest ended at midnight after Baghapurana DSP Dalbir Singh told the protesters that an FIR had been registered and the culprits would be arrested soon. The case took a political turn after Rupinder told news platforms active on social media, accusing local AAP MLA from Baghapurana, Amritpal Singh Sukhanand, of shielding the killers and threatening the victim. Refuting the allegations in a Facebook statement, Sukhanand termed the claims "politically motivated". He alleged the murder resulted from a domestic dispute, claiming that Rupinder, the wife of the murder accused Manpreet, was in a live-in relationship with the sarpanch....
