Chandigarh, Aug. 10 -- With the shifting of the monsoon axis, hot and humid weather is back in the city. The maximum temperature rose to 36degC on Sunday, the highest yet this month. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted similar weather conditions for the week, with the possibility of rain on Tuesday. IMD officials said the rain during this period depends on the position of the monsoon axis and trough. Currently, the monsoon axis has shifted southwards. However, according to the initial forecast, the axis is likely to shift back towards the region on Tuesday. This can lead to a spell of light to moderate rain before the axis shifts southwards again. Due to the sunny weather, the maximum temperature rose from 33.4degC on Saturday to 36degC on Sunday, 2.5degC above normal. Before this, the highest maximum temperature recorded this month was 35.2degC on August 1 and 2. Despite above normal rain in July, the overall monsoon continues to remain in deficit in the city. At the Sector 39 IMD station, 414.1 mm rain has been recorded this monsoon which is 20.5% below normal for the corresponding period. The minimum temperature rose from 24degC on Saturday to 25degC on Sunday, 1.4degC below normal. In the next three days, maximum temperature will remain between 32degC and 35degC while minimum temperature will remain between 24degC and 25degC....
