Hyderabad, June 23 -- Days after the death of a 27-year-old Visakhapatnam-based software professional P Radha Gayatri in Mussoorie, her mother alleged that Gayatri endured severe mental harassment from her husband and had expressed anguish over his conduct shortly before her death. Gayatri died on June 15 at a homestay on the Mussoorie-Dhanolti road, where she along with her husband, Soumya Sricharan had stayed during their trip to the hill station. Gayatri, a resident of Kidwai Nagar in Delhi, was working for an IT firm in Gurugram, while her husband, also a techie, is based in Pune. A case was initially registered as a suspicious death, which was later changed to that of murder, after Gayatri's father alleged foul play and filed a complaint against Sricharan on Saturday. The Mussoorie Police booked Sricharan under section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Inspector Sampurnanand Gairola, the investigating officer, said: "I have just taken over the probe. The accused will be summoned for questioning as and when required during the course of the investigation." On Monday, Gayatri's mother accused Sricharan of mental harassment that led to the death of her daughter. She claimed that Gayatri had expressed anguish over her husband's conduct in a telephonic conversation with her a week before her death. Talking to reporters in Visakhapatnam, Satyavathi played the clip of the purported phone call, and alleged that Sri Charan displayed extreme jealousy and possessiveness from the early days of the marriage. "He had installed CCTV cameras inside their bedroom and monitored footage with the assistance of a building watchman," she alleged. Satyavathi also claimed that he had secretly placed a GPS tracking device in Gayatri's handbag to monitor her movements. The device allegedly came to light when it triggered an alert during a security check at her workplace, she said. Satyavathi alleged that Sri Charan frequently demanded video calls while Gayatri was travelling in office cabs and even during working hours. She claimed that he routinely accused her of having extramarital relationships. "In front of both families, however, he portrayed himself as a caring and respectable husband while concealing his actual conduct," she alleged. Meanwhile, Satyavathi met local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao and sought his intervention in pursuing the case....
