Dehradun, June 23 -- The standoff between a group of Nihang Sikhs camped atop a Rudraprayag gurudwara and police continued on Monday, officers said, adding that only four of the group remained on the terrace and efforts to induce them to abandon the operation were underway. "Two Nihang Sikhs came down on Sunday evening, and another came down on Monday morning. In total, three have come down, while efforts are underway to bring the remaining four down," said district SP Neeharika Tomar. She confirmed that action would be taken against the group for allegedly pelting stones at police. Adequate police personnel remained deployed in and around the gurdwara as a precautionary measure, she said. On Sunday, gurdwara management accused the Nihang Sikhs of vandalising property, and unlawfully confining an elderly pilgrim. The management said the group was demanding release of four Nihang Sikhs who were arrested in Karnaprayag following a clash with locals over parking dispute earlier this month. District magistrate Vishal Mishra refuted reports of hostages being held at the gurdwara as false. Gurdwara management was handling the situation, he said.
