Sree Santh breaks ties with Harbhajan, says Bhajji made Rs.1 crore off 'slapgate'
India, April 28 -- Eighteen years after the first IPL season was rocked by one of Indian cricket's most talked-about controversies, former pacer Sree Santh has revisited the 2008 'slapgate' episode involving him and former spinner Harbhajan Singh.
The incident dates back to IPL 2008, when Harbhajan, then stand-in captain for the Mumbai Indians, allegedly slapped Sree Santh, then a member of the Kings XI Punjab, as players were leaving the field following Mumbai's win. The visuals of a tearful Sree Santh had gone viral at the time, and Harbhajan was subsequently suspended for the remainder of the season and five ODIs, while his entire match fee was also forfeited.
While the two were believed to have moved on, Sree, 43, has now said that a recent advertisement featuring Harbhajan, 45, has reopened old wounds.
"Until recently, there were no problems, but Bhajji (Harbhajan) made an ad about it once again. He made around Rs.80 lakh to Rs.1 crore off it. He then called me and asked me to post a story about it. I told him, 'I'll forgive but I'll never forget'. If you forget, they will do the same thing again," Sree Santh told Malayalam outlet Mathrubhumi.
The advertisement Sree Santh referred to was for a retail brand, in which Harbhajan is seen shouting at people attempting to fix electronic equipment by hitting them, saying, "Sahi se thappad lagao, sab theek ho jata hain."
"He was a brother once, but not after the advertisement. I don't have any relationship with him. I don't have any complaints against him, and I don't need him. May God bless his family," Sree added.HTC...
