Sonepat village rolls out red carpet for Asian Games gold medallist Ashu
Rohtak, Oct. 1 -- Kabaddi player Ashu Malik, a member of the Indian team that won gold at the Asian Games, returned to his village Khanpur Kalan in the Gohana area of Sonepat on Wednesday. He was given a rousing reception by villagers and family members.
Residents organised a victory procession accompanied by traditional drums and instruments. Hundreds of people lined the streets, showering him with flower garlands and offering congratulations on the achievement, which they described as a moment of pride for the entire village. Upon reaching home, Malik first met his grandmother and gently draped the gold medal over her shoulders.
Speaking about the triumph, Malik said he was delighted that the Indian kabaddi team had secured gold at the Asian Games. "Being part of this team is a matter of pride for me. Winning gold for the country is a memorable moment," he said.
He also thanked the villagers for the warm welcome. "The way the people of the village welcomed me has made me very happy. The procession with drums and the respect shown by everyone will always remain special," Malik added. htc...
