Ludhiana, May 13 -- Six persons, including a woman and her family members, have been booked for allegedly duping Ludhiana's Akalgarh-based family of Rs.1.40 crore on the pretext of securing a permanent residency in the United States for one of their relatives. Complainant Karamjit Singh, a resident of Navi Abadi in village Akalgarh under Raikot subdivision, said the accused's family, while claiming that it was involved in immigration-related work, took the money for getting him and his kin settled in the US. The complainant said he arranged the money through loans from relatives and friends, besides mortgaging property and selling gold. Sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the BNS and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional (Regulation) Act were slapped, police said. htc...
