Chandigarh, Nov. 1 -- Union homeminister Amit Shah arrived in the city on Saturday night for his scheduled visit. He was welcomed at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport by UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, mayor Saurabh Joshi and senior administrative officials. Shah was taken to the PWD Rest House in Sector 1, Panchkula, where he will stay overnight. On Sunday, Shah will first attend the Chandigarh Police Raising Day celebrations at Police Lines, Sector 26, around 10 am. He will present the prestigious President's Police Colour to the force and flag off 141 new vehicles for the police fleet. Later, around 1.30 pm, he will attend a programme at Tiranga Park in Sector 17, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth approximately Rs.258 crore. In view of the VVIP visit, traffic restrictions and diversions will be in place in Panchkula and Chandigarh. Routes from Mata Mansa Devi Singh Dwar towards Old Panchkula and from Suraj Cinema, Sector 1, via the PWD Rest House to the further T-point are likely to be affected from 7 am to 11 am. Commuters travelling from Pinjore and Kalka towards Chandigarh can use the alternative route via Majri Chowk, Sector 17/18 Chowk and Housing Board. Those travelling from Chandigarh towards Panchkula, Kalka and Pinjore can take the route via Housing Board, Sector 17/18 Chowk and Nada Sahib Road to reach Majri Chowk. According to the Chandigarh Police, traffic will be regulated on November 1 from 9.30 am to 4 pm. Traffic regulation will be in place on Madhya Marg from Fun Republic Light Point to Matka Chowk; on the stretch from Sector 16/17 Light Point to Tiranga Park in Sector 17 via Lyons Light Point; and from Railway Light Point to Police Lines, Sector 26, via Shastri Nagar Light Point and police lines light point. Restrictions will also apply on the route from Police Lines, Sector 26, to St Kabir Light Point, Kishangarh Turn, Sector 5/6-7/8 Chowk and Sector 7/8-18/19 Chowk. Vehicular movement will additionally be regulated on Purv Marg from Transport Light Point to Tribune Chowk and on Dakshin Marg from Tribune Chowk to Airport Light Point....
