Ahmedabad, Aug. 22 -- Protests intensified over the murder of a class 10 student at a private school in Ahmedabad allegedly by his classmate, with more than 150 schools in the Gujarat city remaining shut on Thursday following a bandh called by Hindu right-wing groups and the Sindhi community, to which the deceased boy belonged. The incident occurred at Seventh Day Adventist School located in the Khokhra area of the city on Tuesday and the victim died during treatment later that night. Police have detained two boys, a class 10 student for stabbing his classmate, and a class 8 student, officers said. "Both accused have been detained and we are investigating the possible role of any other suspects," an officer from Ahmedabad crime branch said. The incident triggered a massive uproar on Wednesday when a large group of people vandalised school properties and assaulted some school staff. Police have booked more than 500 people on charges of rioting and assault following a complaint from school administration. On Thursday, more than 150 schools as well as shops and businesses in Maninagar, Khokhara and Isanpur areas remained shut following a bandh call by Hindu groups and Sindhi community leaders. Members of the NSUI staged a protest on Thursday, demanding the closure of the private school. Several NSUI members were detained after they attempted to storm the school premises and clashed with police personnel deployed at the spot. Meanwhile, a screen shot of a social media chat between two students went viral on social media platforms with a claim that one of them is the main accused juvenile.
