Kapurthala, Aug. 4 -- Expressing concern over the "dilapidated" condition of 124-year-old historical building of Sainik School in Kapurthala, Lieutenant General Amit Kabthiyal (YSM and SM), General Officer Commanding (GOC), Vajra Corps, on Monday called for an urgent restoration of the building. While inspecting the only Sainik School of Punjab, housed in the Jagatjit Palace of Kapurthala, Lt Gen Kabthiyal remarked that the structure, though vintage and historical, had deteriorated due to its age and therefore needed urgent maintenance and restoration. The Sainik School started functioning in this building from 1961. The state government had written to the Union ministry of defence, proposing the construction of a modern building in the vacant land available on the same premises, besides restoring the pristine glory of the historic Jagatjit Palace, but action is awaited. Kabthiyal interacted with cadets, inquiring about their studies and future ambitions. Highlighting the prestige and allure of the National Defence Academy (NDA), he exhorted a maximum number of students to strive for entry into the esteemed institution. He also visited the hostels and reviewed the repair work being undertaken.
