Rs.2 lakh to hang with Meghan? Social media isn't having it
India, March 16 -- P
rince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to visit Australia next month, but one event on their itinerary has drawn backlash over high ticket prices. Meghan is reportedly hosting a ticketed Girls' Weekend retreat at Sydney's InterContinental Hotel from 17-19 April, with VIP tickets priced at AUD 3,199 (around $2,235 or over Rs.2 lakh).
VIP attendees will have access to the three-day event, including a gala dinner with front-row seating and a group photo with Meghan. The package also promises personal conversations with her and a schedule of wellness and lifestyle activities.
Social media users questioned whether the cost is justified for what is essentially a group weekend. One wrote, "Who wants to pay $3,200 to be seen with a yacht girl with ties to Jeffrey Epstein and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor?" Another commented, "So, royal roles are now being marketed like influencers?" Some criticised the event as contrary to Meghan's humanitarian image, highlighting expectations of visits to Aboriginal communities.
Supporters, however, defended the retreat. "It's organised by the Her Best Life podcast, not Meghan. She isn't being paid, and ticket sales benefit Lifeline Naarm, an Australian suicide prevention service," one user noted.
