Rewari villagers oppose factory wastewater discharge into canal
Rohtak, May 19 -- Representatives from 11 villages of Rewari district on Monday opposed the alleged plan to discharge industrial wastewater from the Asalwas-Patuhera industrial area into an open canal passing through rural areas and demanded that the wastewater be transported through an underground pipeline instead.
The aggrieved residents of villages, including Kasola, Kasoli, Barkapur, Garhi Bolni, Basai, Mukdapur and other nearby villages, attended the panchayat at Kasoli temple. The villagers warned that if their demands are not addressed within 48 hours, a larger Mahapanchayat would be called to decide the future course of action.
Following the protest, officials of the Haryana state industrial and infrastructure development corporation (HSIDC) sought two days' time to resolve the matter.
Addressing the gathering, Capt Balbir Bagthala, who was heading the panchayat alleged that HSIIDC had awarded a contract for laying an underground pipeline to carry factory wastewater to the sewer line, but the contractor was now attempting to release the effluents into an open canal instead of installing the pipeline underground.
