Rajnath warns of 'ideological wars'
New Delhi, Oct. 22 -- Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday cautioned against the "new types of crime, terrorism and ideological wars" emerging within the society, emphasising that balancing the nation's internal and external security is now more critical than ever.
"There is instability on the borders, new types of crime, terrorism and ideological wars are emerging within the society. Hailing the armed forces and police as the two pillars of national security, the defence minister said: "If the army is guarding the territorial integrity then the police is protecting society and its social fabric. I was a home minister and have closely seen the police's functioning."

Referring to the challenge of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE), Singh reiterated the Centre's assurance that the issue would be resolved by March next year.
"The concerted and organised efforts of police, CRPF, BSF, and local administration have ensured that the problem did not escalate and the people in the LWE affected areas breath a sigh of relief. We are confident that the problem will end by March next year. Several top Naxalites have been eliminated this year. Those who previously took up arms against the state are now surrendering and joining the mainstream of development. The number of districts affected by LWE has come down drastically. Areas that were once Naxalite hubs are now becoming educational hubs. Our police and security forces have contributed significantly," he said....
