Jaipur, Sept. 9 -- A 42-year-old tourist guide at the Amer Fort in Rajasthan, who was stabbed multiple times by a jeep driver and his associate on Monday after an altercation near the fort, died during treatment on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Manish Soni. Police said news of his death triggered a shutdown staged by local guides and traders at the Amer Market, spurring heavy deployment of forces to keep law and order. Amer station house officer Rajendra Godara said the incident took place near Maotha Lake. The accused, identified as jeep driver Azam and his associate Nazish, were stationed near the area when a group of tourists arrived in a private vehicle, asking for directions to the fort. Azam allegedly claimed that private vehicles were barred from going towards the fort and suggested that the group hire a jeep instead. Manish, who was also nearby, reportedly intervened and offered directions to the tourists, who subsequently left. Police said this spurred the dispute, which escalated after Azam and Nazish allegedly stabbed Soni in the abdomen. He was rushed to SMS Hospital in critical condition and admitted to the intensive care unit. Police arrived at the scene soon after the stabbing and arrested Azam and Nazish.
