New Delhi, July 28 -- Ragging complaints from higher educational institutions across India increased to 1,369 cases in 2025, marking over a 100% jump from 655 in 2022, the Centre told the Lok Sabha on Monday, maintaining that its response to the problem remains "corrective and preventive." Minister of state for education Sukanta Majumdar, in a written response to a set of questions from Trinamool Congress lawmaker Sayani Ghosh, said ragging complaints rose 46.9% in 2023 over the previous year, 12.7% in 2024, and 26.3% in 2025.
