Punjabi movie promoter moves HC over CBFC clearance delay
Chandigarh, June 24 -- The makers of a Punjabi movie - Chardikala - have approached the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking directions to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to expedite the clearance process. Made by MAD4 Films, a Mohali-based firm, the movie, according to the petitioner firm, was released internationally on May 29 and received "appreciation" from viewers abroad.
The petition mentioned that the CBFC was approached on May 12. However, in a communication on May 26, the CBFC declined to grant certification, claiming that "the film is based on a highly socio-political sensitive theme and is perceived to threaten law and order".
The plea said that an application was filed to review the decision, which remains pending. Hence, the CBFC be directed to constitute a committee to review its decision and dispose of the application expeditiously, the firm stated.
The matter was taken up by the bench of justice Vikram Aggarwal, which deferred hearing for July 1 after the respondent counsel sought a short adjournment to enable him to seek instructions....
