India, Sept. 21 -- From rare photographs and century-old videos to stories of royal intrigue, patriotism and rebellion, Punjab's princely past came alive in Chandigarh on Sunday, when author Jashandeep Singh Kang unveiled his book Princely Punjab. It revisits the histories of eight erstwhile princely states - Patiala, Nabha, Kapurthala, Faridkot, Jind, Malerkotla, Kalsia and Nalagarh - offering a glimpse into a chapter of Punjab's past that is often remembered in fragments. The event began with a presentation featuring 100 rare photographs, 40 little-known facts and a compilation of century-old videos from the princely states. The narrative in Princely Punjab stretches from the misty hills of Chail to the Malwa plains, tracing battles, political intrigue, imperial rivalries and royal ambitions before culminating in the formation of the Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU) in 1948. Rani Preeti Singh Nabha, the chief guest, spoke about Nabha's history of Panth, patriotism and defiance of an indomitable empire, while Raja Amarinder Singh Brar of the House of Faridkot joined as the special guest of honour.
