Punjab industry hit by 8 to 10-hr power cuts
Patiala, Sept. 13 -- Punjab is reeling under a severe power crisis, forcing the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to impose 8 to 10-hour power cuts on industries and 3-4 hours of unscheduled cuts in domestic and agriculturesectors.
The crunch was triggered after technical failures shutdown one unit each at the private Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo thermal plants, wiping out 1,360 MW of daily generation. Concurrently, deficient monsoon rainfall and extreme heat pushed peak demand to a record 16,519 MW, up from 12,489 MW last year.
