Punjab govt staffers on strike today
Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- Functioning in various Punjab government departments is likely to be hit on August 27 as several employees' unions are going on a statewide strike to press the AAP government to accept their long-pending demands, including the release of pending dearness allowance. A meeting between Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann and representatives of the employees' bodies under the banner of Punjab Sanjha Mulazam Manch to discuss their issues will be held on the same day in Jalandhar. Over 150 employees' bodies have joined hands for the strike to pressurise the state government to accept their long-pending demands.
