PRAGG overcomes odds to become 1st Indian to win GRAND CHESS TOUr
NEW dELHI, Aug. 29 -- Grandmaster (GM) R Praggnanandhaa became the first Indian to win the coveted Grand Chess Tour after defeating the US's Fabiano Caruana in a come-from-behind effort. Praggnanandhaa lost the first Classical game and drew the second, trailing Caruana 3-9 going into Thursday. He then won both Rapid games to take a 11-9 lead.
The players scored equal points in the Blitz section and Praggnanandhaa won the final 15-13 to pocket USD 200,000 as the winning purse. The title win also guaranteed Praggnanandhaa a spot in the next year's Grand Chess Tour.
