Power tariff cuts relief for homes, MSMEs: Sanjeev Arora
Chandigarh, March 7 -- Power and industries minister Sanjeev Arora said that reduced tariffs will provide substantial relief to households, Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and other consumer categories in the state. Arora said that the domestic category consumers will continue to receive substantial support through the state government's free electricity initiative. "More than 90% of households in Punjab are already benefiting. Even for households consuming beyond the free quota, tariffs have been reduced," he added.
The minister said that for the industrial sector, energy charges have not been increased for FY 2026-27, while fixed charges for industrial connections have been reduced. He said these measures will improve cost competitiveness for the industry and strengthen the growth of MSMEs across Punjab.
The minister further stated that electricity connections in lawyers' chambers registered with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, and located in court complexes, will now be billed at the domestic tariff instead of the commercial tariff....
