Polling for Mohali civic bodies on May 26
Mohali, May 12 -- Elections to the Mohali municipal corporation and adjoining civic bodies, including Zirakpur, Kurali, Kharar, Banur and Dera Bassi, Nayagaon and Lalru, will be held on May 26, with the state election commission announcing the poll schedule on Monday.
State election commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri said the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in all these areas and will remain in force until the electoral process is complete.
According to the schedule, filing of nomination papers will begin on May 13 and continue till May 16. Scrutiny of papers will take place on May 18, while candidates can withdraw their nominations till 3 pm on May 19.
Polling will take place on May 26 from 8 am to 5 pm, while counting will take place on May 29.
The commission stated that candidates contesting MC elections would be allowed a maximum expenditure of Rs.4 lakh. For municipal councils, the expenditure limit has been fixed according to category.
