PM Modi, Rahul have cordial chat at Phule tribute
NEW DELHI, April 12 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday had a cordial exchange at a function held in the Parliament House complex.
The interaction, caught on camera, happened when the two leaders greeted each other during an event organised to mark the 200th birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule.
According to two officials, the two leaders exchanged courtesies, and Modi asked Rahul about Sonia Gandhi's health.
In the video that was widely circulated on social media, when the PM arrived to pay floral tributes at the statue of Phule on the occasion of his birth anniversary, several leaders, including Gandhi, were seen greeting him.
The PM then turned towards Gandhi and could be seen having a conversation with him.
There was no comment from either the BJP or the Congress about what transpired, although the conversation appeared to be cordial.
Paying tribute to Phule, Modi in a post on 'X' said, "Paid homage to Mahatma Phule in the Parliament complex. May his ideals continue to give strength and hope to countless people".
In a post, Gandhi said: "On the birth anniversary of the great social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule ji, I offer my humble homage to him"....
