Mohali, Sept. 14 -- A 24-year-old pedestrian chased down two motorcycle-borne snatchers after they allegedly snatched his mobile phone near the vegetable market on Chandigarh-Ambala Road in Zirakpur on Saturday afternoon. With the help of passersby, he overpowered them and handed them over to the police. Suresh Kumar, a resident of Preet Colony, was walking towards Patiala Chowk around 12.10 pm when the suspects approached him on a motorcycle from the wrong side. The pillion rider snatched his phone from his hand. Kumar grabbed the rider's black T-shirt and ran alongside the speeding motorcycle as the suspects tried to flee. The motorcycle then collided with a three-wheeler crossing their path, causing both suspects and Kumar to fall. The pillion rider threw the stolen phone on the road. Bystanders and residents immediately surrounded and overpowered both men. Police identified the accused as Neeraj Kumar alias Chhinda of Rampur Kalan, Zirakpur, and Harvinder Singh alias Happy of Devi Nagar, Dera Bassi. Police said the black Bajaj Platina they were riding had no rear registration plate. Three eyewitnesses - Jaswinder Singh, Rahul Kumar and Gurpreet Singh - accompanied Kumar to the Zirakpur police station to hand over the accused, motorcycle and recovered phone.
